A Shapely Birthday

I’ve needed to make birthday cards for my Stampin’ Family, and the sketch over at Create with Connie & Mary inspired me to make this simple, shapely and cheerful greeting (with a little embossed bling on the birthday)!

Don’t be afraid to take a sketch and turn it on it’s side, like I did with this one:

Card Recipe (all supplies from Stampin’ Up!):

Stamps: Blue Ribbon (wood~131964 or clear~125981)
Ink: Bermuda Bay (131171) and Raspberry Ripple (126859)

Accessories: Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder (131930), Heat Tool (129053), Big Shot (113439), Oval Accent Bigz Clear die (127055),  Ovals Collection framelits (129381), 2-3/8″ Scallop Circle punch (118874), Occasions Paper Piercing Pack (129387), Paper Piercing Tool (126189) and Stampin’ Pierce Mat (126199).

As always, you can order supplies HERE and don’t forget that Designer Series Paper (DSP) is Buy 3, Get 1 FREE this month and if you order on my website during July 2013, enter hostess code JF3KWJT7 because someone will be the “Mystery Hostess” and get some fun goodies this month!

I’m going to make a bunch of these cards with the other papers in the same pack and I’ll post a picture on my FB Fan Page, if you want to see samples in varying colors and designs 🙂

God Bless the U.S.A.

In studying the Revolutionary War, I remember being deeply moved by a quote from Thomas Paine, who believed God had a hand in liberating America from the British, and penned these sentiments as he travelled alongside the Continental Army with George Washington for a time in 1776.

“What we obtain too cheap, we esteem to lightly; It is dearness only that gives every thing it value. Heaven knows how to put a proper rice upon it’s goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated.”

These words, beginning with, “These are the times that try men’s souls…” were read to the army on December 23, 1775, three days before the Battle of Trenton in an attempt to inspire and bolster the souls of the rag tag band of soldiers. The battle was a turning point for “our team” and there is no doubt that God’s influence was there.
I feel that these times also try men’s souls, but I am deeply patriotic and 100% convinced that God desired America to be free, but that freedom requires obedience to his laws. My prayer this Independence Day is that we understand that God will bless America, when we are true and faithful to irrevocable (and non-voteable) laws that He has set forth to protect and bless us.

Dads & Grads: Blue Ribbon Days!

Quick share today! I used the Blue Ribbon stamp set to create a card for Dad:

And also a card for a Grad!

And here’s a little tip on how to use your 2-3/8″ Scallop circle punch to punch out the medallion without cutting off the ribbons: Just cut up the side of each ribbon first, then pull it out the top of the punch:
Whoever thought that one up deserves a ribbon!

Here for You

I believe God gives us experiences to uniquely prepare us to help others. I’ve been blessed to have a dear friend who is struggling right now and trusts me to be there when she needs me because our experiences have been very similar. It is a stewardship I am grateful for, and pray every day for guidance from my Heavenly Father that I may say the right thing to help lift and strengthen her. Today’s card is for her.

Serendipitously, I was able to tie it to two of my favorite challenges at Create with Connie & Mary and SU Only 🙂 Wish you could see the sparkles on some of the raindrops just a little better…

Card Recipe (all supplies from Stampin’ Up!):

  • Stamps: Million-Dollar Moments (Spring catalog)
  • Ink: Island Indigo (stamp it off to make it lighter)
  • Paper: Whisper White, Island Indigo, Bashful Blue and vellum card stock, Sunshine & Sprinkles Designer Series Paper (126922)
  • Accessories: Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch (119275), Designer Printed Brads (122940), 1/4″ White Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon (126877), Dazzling Details (124117), Stampin’ Dimensionals

One of my favorite quotes is from a modern day prophet, Spencer W. Kimball (1895-1985) who said, “God does watch over us and does notice us,
but it usually through someone else that he meets our needs.”

May you find someone to serve who has been praying for you today!

Framelits: A Gate-Fold Card Tutorial VIDEO

HOLY COW! I *seriously* underestimated the time it would take to make (and edit!) a video tutorial!I have been reluctant about starting videos because I knew they would take time…I just had no idea HOW MUCH time they would take :p

Now my complaining is out of the way, I am pretty pleased with it. Like having a baby: Perhaps the amount you love them is commensurate in some way to the amount of pain you go through to bring them into (and keep them in) the world!!

Before the tutorial, let me show you the superbly adorable and infinitely superior cards I created…no need to organize a parade…a simple kind comment will suffice 🙂

Without further ado, I present unto you my first-born video tutorial!

Whew! I feel like I may need nine months of recovery before I try another one…or maybe I just need to hire someone who can edit video and do graphic design for me…

In other news, I had a total mother PAYBACK yesterday with my eldest son! It was such a beautiful day to hear him say, “My mom is always right” and tell me how blessed he feels. Those moments are worth everything we went through to hear it! Life is good 🙂

Oh Hello

When was the last time you sent a card to a friend “Just Because”? Getting a hand-stamped card in your mailbox makes you feel so loved! Who do you know that needs one of these cards to brighten their day?

I am really having fun with the Label Collection Framelits (see how to cut the edge of your card in this tutorial) and this time I paired it with the new Borders plate for the Simply Scored to create the raised edge! And can you see the paper-pierced scallop border peeking out from the inside panel? Yep, I pretty much love everything about this card and hope that the friend that gets it loves it too.

Actually, I can think of a few people who need one, so I’ll have to make a few more to spread the joy!

Card Recipe (all Stampin’ Up supplies):

  • Stamps: Oh, Hello (pg 4 of Spring Catalog)
  • Ink: Lucky Limeade and Primrose Petals Stampin’ Write Markers, Crumb Cake ink pad
  • Paper: Card stock~ Primrose Petals, Very Vanilla. Tea for Two Designer Series Paper (129311)
  • Accessories: Label Collection Framelits (125598), Big Shot (113439), Simply Scored (122334), Borders Scoring Plate (126192), Essentials Paper Piercing Pack (126197), Paper Piercing Tool (126189), Stampin’ Pierce Mat (126199), Decorative Label punch (120907), Stampin’ Sponge (101610), Very Vanilla Seam Binding Ribbon (120999), 5/8″ Flower Trim (126869)
