Ice Cream, Adhesive Sheets and Last Chance Sale

When you have the right tools, any project becomes easier.

Adhesive sheets are a type of double-sided adhesive that make any piece of paper into a sticker, and they are indispensable for a project like PAPER PIECING. The Ice Cream Swirl dies are a perfect example of how you can create sweet cards to drool over, using adhesive sheets:

Start with a 5.5″ x 6.75″ card base (scored at 4.25″) and “build” layers with Designer Series Paper. The Lighter Than Air designs have creamy colors that I used to cut 3 swirls from, then built up my lemon-raspberry ice cream swirl. This is a card you’ll want to make triplets of at one time, just to use up all the pieces:

Today (April 9th) is the last day to register for my Crafting Happiness class on Friday, April 19th, where I’ll be featuring the Ice Cream Swirl Bundle (and you get a discount on the class if you purchase the bundle from my store)- OR you can use one of the stamp & die bundles you may already have.

Paper “Quilts” for TGIF Sketch

Paper Crafting is a LOT like quilting: Take scraps and put them together, and you’ve got a completely NEW object!

Late last night I “stitched” together a few panels to use for the #tgifc424 sketch challenge:

And because I couldn’t decide which I liked best, I made TWO versions, one for “paper-piecers” and the other for “fabric-piecers”!

Which version do you like best? I really want to know!

I can see a quilter including the second card with a comforter they would gift to a loved one!

My scraps were pieces of the Countryside Inn Designer Series Paper (15% off during June!) and I paired my paper quilts with the Basics Floral 3D Embossing Folder…have you seen this bundle of *indispensible* textures? Only available in my online store, they are the ones I reach for the most because one of them will go with [almost] anything I’m creating!

And can we take a minute to admire the Boho Blue Limited Edition Mini Cut & Emboss Machine I stamped on my card and the actual one in my Stampin’ Store? I really did stamp it in Boho Blue for my card, but the lighting at night doesn’t look quite right. I love the mini machine for quick cutting and it’s the one that sits on my desk, but remember; the regular size embossing folders only fit in the regular Cut & Emboss Machine.

Use up your Designer Series Paper scraps with this technique: Glue pieces next to each other on a piece of card stock (in line or randomly), then cut to desired size and use it like you would a regular piece of patterned paper!

3-D Paper Piecing: Attention to Detail

My style is simple. Usually. But when I saw the Friday Mashup Challenge for 3-D Paper Piecing, my interest was piqued and this little elephant from the You’re Amazing stamp set came to mind:

I did my paper piecing a little different as I didn’t have the 3-d glue suggested in the tutorial video, so I cut out the largest whole elephant image (including hat), then layered it on my base with the Multipurpose Liquid Glue, next cut out the elephant head/trunk/hat and adhered that, and finally, the party hat! Other than that, I followed the tutorial substituting the tools I had from Stampin’ Up!

It’s fussy, detail-oriented work, but I loved the result! You can watch Mariska’s tutorial on Splitcoaststampers.

Combining the Friday Mashup 3-D and color challenge with the sketch from Create with Connie & Mary, here is the finished card:

I’ve also challenged my Stampin’ Family to “Go for the GOLD” so you may notice the gold sequins that add a little bling to the whole thing as an homage to the US Olympic Team 🙂

If you love this card, you can make one of your own at my 3-D Card Class on February 20th!

Candy Corn & Paper Piecing Mashup

A sure sign of fall isn’t the falling leaves or cooler temperatures…it’s the CANDY! Remember when you could ONLY get candy corn in Autumn and Peeps at Easter? That was before they started making pastel corn for Easter and Peeps ghosts for Halloween…ah, the good old days…

I’ve been thinking about tags lately, so this popped into my head when I saw the Friday Mashup challenge (mashing up a fall food theme and paper piercing, FM128) and the Freshly Made Sketch (FMS104) this week:

The paper piercing was inspired by Patty B (but on a smaller version of hers). Here’s how I made the candy corn:

So there’s a sweet treat double whammy (or is it a triple?) for you today!
