Something Old, New & Blue for a Sketch

This is the great clean-out week in the Creative Juice Stampin’ Studio as I prepare for my New Catalog Carnival & BOGO Sale on May 6th!

As I was sorting through things, I found a few items that were retiring which I wanted to combine with a new bundle coming in the 2023-2025 Catalog: A piece of By the Bay Designer Series Paper and the Seashells 3-Dembossing folder. So when I saw the Freshly Made Sketch #FMS582 for the week, I knew exactly what to do!

Using a sponge dauber and my Whisper White Craft ink pad, I made the embossed background stand out a bit by rubbing the ink over the shells and seaweed, then pulled colors from the Designer Series Paper (Balmy Blue, Crumb Cake, Night of Navy and Soft Sea Foam) to use as my color palette.

If I had a “spirit shape” it would be a circle (I don’t like corners), so the Circle Saying stamp set – which coordinates with a new 2-3/8″ circle punch – was part of my first demonstrator pre-order from the new catalog, which you will be able to shop from starting May 2nd. HOWEVER, if you want to combine them with the embossing folder or pretty paper, you’ll need to snag them now in the LAST CHANCE SALE:

The Circle Sayings Bundle (photopolymer stamp set + 2-3/8″ circle punch) will be available on May 2nd, and here are the other supplies to collect NOW for this card:

Summer Sampler & Stamp Club

The forecast shows SUNSHINE and STAMPING are in your future!

My friend Sue & I are hosting the next class for our year of seasonal home decor and the Summer Sampler one is sure to be a fun one! The class is just $12 and doesn’t include the frame.

Summer Sampler Class

Thursday, June 2nd –  10 am OR 7 pm

350 S. 400 W. Hurricane, UT

Since I’ve moved (back) to southern Utah, I’m starting a new stamp club that meets every other month, with each member taking turns to earn free products! The clubs will be held in my home (so you won’t have to clean your house!) and club members will make 2 projects for free. Wouldn’t it be nice to join with a friend so you had something creative to look forward to together? You could go to dinner before the club and make it a whole evening out!

The first club will be June 16th in Hurricane and is limited to 6 people, so learn more and join the club by clicking on the button below!

What’s New at SU! ~ Bird Ballad Lanterns

Whats new (2)

Greetings, friends: I’m glad you are here for our “summertime stamping” themed blog hop! The What’s New at SU! group is comprised of demonstrators from around the world who are excited to share the latest Stampin’ Up! ideas with you, and I know you’ll find inspiration to create your own versions (or borrow one of ours).

I love thinking of ways to use my paper crafting supplies for projects that are unusual, and when I think of summer, I think of barbecues and picnics with family and friends! So why not a little tabletop decor?

The beautiful new Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper (DSP) was a fine choice for these paper lanterns and they were super simple to make!

IMG_2311 (W)

For the small round lantern, you’ll need a piece of 6″ x 12″ DSP. Score it at 1″ along the top and bottom, then cut vertical lines at every inch between the two score lines. Cut two strips of contrasting DSP 1″ x 12″ to reinforce the top and bottom edges, if desired, and a 1″ x 10″ strip for the handle. Wrap the paper around and attach the sides together at the back.  I inserted the handle between the lantern and outside reinforcement strip using Tear & Tape adhesive. I also curled the paper with my bone folder a bit to keep the round shape. Then I set it over a small jar with a battery-operated candle!

This tall lantern is easier (if possible)! It’s a piece of 9″ x 9″ DSP and you score it at 1″, 4.5″ and 8″, then fold at the 4.5″ line and cut at 1″ from the fold just to the edge of the score lines:

When you unfold the paper, it looks like this:

Follow the same instructions for finishing this lantern. You could make them any size: I simply suggest measuring the jars you are going to wrap them around and cut the width to 1″ longer.

Now you are ready to party on to the next blog which is Terry’s (or back to Margriet’s blog)!

Pulled the Plug

Between computer, television and gaming systems, we felt that we were spending too much time in front of a screen at our house this summer, so we pulled the plug.

That’s right, you heard me…pulled. the. plug.

It’s only been about a week and it has been a blessing…and a curse.

Blessings: More time to finish projects, clean house, play games together, READ (yeah!), peace & quiet, less fighting and we choose (via dvd) which things we WILL watch together as a family.

Curses: Trying to keep up with my blog/website, can’t print information from the internet or e-mail people in my address book, have to run to the library to use the computer, harder to stay connected.

We weighed the options, and while it’s hard, it was “courageous parenting” (at least that’s what I keep telling myself). Truth be told, it’s been good for me, too. Who hasn’t wasted hours in front of a computer and looked around and wondered where the time went?

So while we are trying this out, there will be less posts here than usual because it’s hard to update at the library. But I can update my Facebook Fan Page, Creative Juice by Loni, so go ahead and “like” it: http://tinyurl.com/5w4bpgk

I hope you’ll be courageous, too…turn off the technology, read a book, stamp a card, get a tan and reconnect with your family this summer!
