Water(color) Melon for Sale-a-Bration

Many of our 2024 Sale-a-Bration freebies coordinate with a new product in the January-April mini catalog, so today I’m showing you how the Watercolor Melon SAB stamp set (an option you can choose free with a $50 order) coordinates with the Modern Oval punch, and that punch *also* matches the Filled with Happiness stamp set!

Let’s say you purchased the Modern Oval punch and Filled with Happiness stamp set and a set of Stampin’ Blends markers, NOW you qualify for a free Sale-a-Bration product…like the Watercolor Melon stamp set!

Hey look! They work interchangeably!

Let’s get a close-up look at these two similar-but-different cards:

Lay down your card stock strips and stamp the “It’s a Good Day” stamp on the white layer BEFORE you emboss it with the Sweet Citrus Hybrid 3-D Embossing Folder.

Stamp the same image again, color in with Stampin’ Blends and punch out the center with the Modern Oval punch to lift up in the center with dimensionals!

Moving on with a similar idea…

Use the slices and wedges of watermelon as your background, then turn your card stock stripes vertically. Use the full watermelon (punched with the Modern Oval) as the place to put your sentiment, which came from the Filled with Happiness set! Isn’t it nice how they all coordinate for bright and beautiful card making?

I guess you could call this one a “Thanks-a-Melon” card! Remember the inside- stamping a little slice of melon with seeds carries the theme through the card.

What are you waiting for? Choosing something free NOW with your qualifying order gives you time to order AGAIN before Sale-a-Bration ends on February 29th, and everyone loves a gift-with-purchase!

3-D Dots On DSP

Hey! It’s good to see you here and know you’ll like the next 3-D embossed card idea. Are you pinning these ideas for inspiration when you want some texture on your cards and paper crafts?!

Stampin’ Up! has an embossing folder that matches the Countryside Inn Designer Series Paper – The Countryside Blossoms E.F. matches one of the patterns perfectly! – but you don’t have to have a matching design to emboss on Designer Series Paper. For this card, I debossed the 3-D Dots into a striped citrus pattern from the Delightfully Eclectic mega-pack:

You CAN combine dots & stripes!

I appreciate that the pattern on the paper hearkens back to my signature “Sweet Citrus” bundle, and in my Tips & Technique video, I used the HYBRID 3-D embossing folder to show you how that one CUTS & EMBOSSES at the SAME TIME!

That’s the third embossing folder from the Basics 3-D Embossing Folder Trio in the Online Exclusives section of my store, but I do have another card to share with you tomorrow.

Make your own ZESTY birthday card with the supplies listed below, and remember to save your BONUS DAYS coupons from July in a folder in your email so you can easily find them to SPEND in August!

Complementary Colors in Card-Making

Understanding a COLOR WHEEL a little bit will help you put together beautiful color palettes for your stamping projects, and today we are talking about COMPLEMENTARY colors, or colors directly across from each other on the color wheel:

When you choose complementary colors, you create HIGH ENERGY in a palette, like this turtle card made from the Playing in the Rain stamp set from Stampin’ Up! using Azure Afternoon (blue) and Pumpkin Pie (orange):

You can always add a bit of a third color (in this case, Granny Apple Green) and still keep the two main colors in focus!

One thing I love doing with a new catalog is to look for card layouts I can copy. Both of the cards I am sharing today were inspired by this card on page 152 of the annual catalog (154 in the digital version):

This next complementary color card follows the same pattern or card layout, but uses the LOVELY new Lemon Lolly color paired with Fresh Freesia, which I cannot get enough of:

This time I used the Sweet Citrus stamps and dies (my signature for creative juice) and embossed the front panel with the Raindrops embossing folder after I stamped the greeting.

All of this is shared in my weekly video, and if you are like me and want it to play faster, just speed up the playback by clicking on the gear at the bottom of the YouTube video!

Now you know a little more about complementary colors, try it yourself! Find a card design in the catalog (or use one of my previous samples here on CJBL) and re-create it with your own colors and stamps.

If you want to copy one of the cards I shared today, here are the supplies I used for both cards:

Grapefruit Easel Thank-You Card

When you are so grateful for someone you could just SQUEEZE them tight, here’s your card!

The Sweet Citrus stamps can become anything (oranges, lemons, limes and even coconuts!) so this time I used Mango Melody and Flirty Flamingo to turn them into GRAPEFRUIT.

But the best thing about this card is that it’s an EASEL card when you open it and stand the front up against the slice inside:

It’s a simple fancy fold: The card base is an 11″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Mango Melody card stock scored at 2-3/4″ and 5-1/2″, plus you’ll need another 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Mango Melody to adhere to the bottom half of the front of the card ONLY (below where it bends) to create the part that stands up. Then just decorate the front panel as desired.

Inside, you’ll need a piece of fruit to create a “stop” for the easel front to rest against. I used a slice of grapefruit popped up on a few dimensionals:

It’s a very easy card to make and yet it packs a (grapefruit) PUNCH!

Here’s a bonus for reading to the end: I also made this card with the Beautifully Happy set from Sale-a-Bration (last month), just to show how versatile this style of card is.

Pick Your Freebie Fast and Sale-a-Bration Challenge

As Stampin’ Up!’s biggest sale of the year winds down, things start to sell out… yesterday the Dainty Flowers Designer Series Paper Sale-a-Bration exclusive product was the first to go. Have YOU picked your freebie yet? Don’t forget that you get to choose a product with each $50 purchase through the end of the month!

Thanks GOODNESS it’s Friday! The #tgifc408 challenge was to use a Sale-a-Bration product, but it’s too difficult to choose just one, so I chose TWO: the Thanks a Bunch stamp set (free choice with $50) and the Dandy Designs Designer Series Paper (a mega-pack that you could choose with a $100 order). TIP: When you order $150, you can choose both PLUS earn $15 Stampin’ Rewards! It’s a good time to stock up on adhesive, envelopes, card stock and don’t forget to check the clearance rack.

The Tailor-Made Tag was a terrific piece for my garden of carrots! Makes me want to pick one.

Have you noticed that long carrots are sweeter and tastier than baby carrots? You can argue, but it’s true.

Since I loved the layout of this card, I had to try it with a different piece of the Dandy Designs paper and another favorite new set… Sweet Citrus:

Two of the colors I used (Pale Papaya on the carrot card base and Fresh Freesia on the grapefruit card layer) are RETIRING in April. These popular In Colors are known to sell out quickly once the retiring list is released in March (if not before), so remember to add an ink refill for your ink pads and stock up on card stock or coordinating accessories now, while you can take advantage of free products during Sale-a-Bration, and before they are sold out, too.

While some of our Sale-a-Bration products are dwindling, there are additional items to choose from the annual catalog:

We Need a Little Citrus

You’re up to your neck in Christmas, but what is Christmas without an orange in the stocking? Or in this instance, a whole case of citrus fruit?

This was another situation where the inspiration woke me up early to create a card! The Global Design Project #gdp372 challenge was to CASE (Copy and Selectively Edit) a project by Kayla McCreadie:

I reached for my new signature stamp set (coming in the January 2023 Mini catalog!) SWEET CITRUS:

With a coordinating Hybrid Embossing Folder and dies, I guarantee you are going to see a LOT of this set from me!

Lest you think it’s not timely for the holiday season, let me show you a Christmas card I showed in yesterday’s live video: This one features a sentiment from the Cozy & Bright Kit currently available in my Stampin’ Store…and highly recommend you collect this kit before it’s gone, so you can use the sentiments from the kit with the Sweet Citrus bundle next year, plus, it’s a very easy kit to assemble and could still afford you time to send Christmas Cards this year.

In addition to the Sweet Citrus bundle (which will be available on January 5th…or you can join my team and order it now!), these are the supplies I used for the Christmas Card:

May you squeeze the most from the holidays, and look forward to this bundle at the beginning of the new year!
