Color Block Zinnia Stand up Card

Simply Zinnia, Simple Fun-Fold Thanks Card

Bright colored flowers shout “I LOVE YOU” as well as “THANK YOU” and “YOU’RE THE BEST!” Zinnias lead the garden in bold flower-power during the summer, so a color-blocked card that stands to display seemed like the one to craft today:

The Simply Zinnia stamp & die bundle is an Online Exclusive that you can NOT miss! For my demonstration, I used Versamark ink to stamp the zinnia image on both the Berry Burst and Coastal Cabana card stock pieces that fit on the card base.

However, the Zinnia bundle IS part of a larger Flowering Zinnia SUITE of products, which includes the Zinnia 3-D Embossing folder…so I also did a version of this card using it to make a “touchable” raised background.

This is how they stand:

There is a HELPFUL TIP for layering the petal dies in today’s video tutorial, which will save you time in assembly. Remember, you can click on the gear in the bottom right of the video and change the speed to make any tutorial play faster, if you are an impatient crafter like me!

Just a few more days to collect the Stamp + Die bundles you love, or the Cut & Emboss machines, for an ADDITIONAL 10% off.

Zinnias for Catalog Sketch, June Bundle Sale

Have you noticed the 22 card sketches on page 22 of the Annual Catalog? You’ll want to turn to these any time you’ve lost your crafting mojo, for they will give you a “map” to follow as you get back into your stamping groove.

If you look closely, you may spy samples throughout the catalog that follow a sketch, as well.

I decided to use the Simply Zinnia bundle to follow this sketch for the #CreativeChallengeSU :

These colors feel like SUMMER and make me want to plant some in my yard.

I know that the Simply Zinnia bundle and Flowering Zinnia Suite are backordered (as of June 6, 2024) but they should be back in stock by the week of June 24th which will give you time to order the bundle during the June “Extra 10% Off” sale on all BUNDLES (Stamps + Dies)!

During June, the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machines are all 10% off as well – original size, mini and Boho Blue mini machine, too! Bring one (or a second one) home to your craft room.

Embellishing with Ephemera

Ephemera: “things that exist or are used or enjoyed for only a short time”

Some of my friends are “junk journalists” while others are scrapbookers, and most of us make greeting cards often. One thing we all have in common is our enjoyment of embellishing our projects with pretty pieces of ribbon, jewels, and paper, or EPHEMERA.

In the 2024-2025 Stampin’ Up! catalog, there are 4 packages of ephemera to mix & match on projects of your choice- from scrapbooks to journals, from tags to cards. In this video, a special guest demonstrates how these bits & pieces ignite the imagination:

Here are a few other cards I created after all the “help” on the video:

TIP: When starting with a printed card base, create a background for your focal point with a plain contrasting color, such as a frame or tag, then “build” images on and around the background.

After creating with the die cut images, I realized the best way to store Epemera pieces would be in an album with the 6″ x 8″ pocket pages so you could punch out the pieces (which kind of want to fall out as you handle the sheets), sort, organize and view them easily in a binder! I’m not at home, or I’d snap a pic to show you, but here is the album and pages in a variety pack. You can click the images to add the products to your cart.

Here are the products we “played” with for our Mix & Match Cards. What will you use them for?

Simply Zinnia Thank You Card Slanted Background In Color 2024-2026

In Color Zinnia Card Duos

If there were a contest for the “most cheerful flower”, don’t you think ZINNIAS would take the prize?

Today’s card(s) feature the Simply Zinnia bundle (an online exclusive available now in my Stampin’ Store) as well as the 2024-2026 In Color products that will be in my store on May 1st!

This slanted background is a handy template to remember (or PIN!) because you can create TWO cards in about the same time it takes to make just one!

It all starts with a 6″ x 3-3/4″ piece of In-Color Designer Series Paper. Mark it at 2″ on the bottom long edge (on the back side of the design you want to use) and at 4″ on the top long edge. Then cut it from the 2″ mark to the 4″ mark. Layer each of those pieces onto a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Basic Black card stock and you are halfway done.

TIP: The leftover 6″ x 2-1/4″ piece of Designer Series Paper fits perfectly on the flap of your envelope, giving you terrific coordination!

Watch the tutorial (speed it up, if desired) to learn how to finish up the card:

And why stop at 2 cards when you can make 10? Two in each of the 2024-26 In Colors: Petunia Pop (shown above), Summer Splash, Peach Pie, Pretty In Pink and Shy Shamrock!

These colors coordinate beautifully, so you can even mix up the colors on the flowers- with the alcohol-based Stampin’ Blends markers, the colors bleed together smoothly:

Here are a few wonderful ways to collect the new IN COLORS:

  • Join my IN COLOR COLLECTORS CLUB and receive a package each month (May-September) filled with a sampling of ALL the products in each of the colors, including an exclusive projects each month…PLUS a FREE BASIC BEIGE BONUS the last month!

New at SU!- Blueberries Simple to Stepped Up

Welcome to the February New at SU! Blog hop! We want to show you how to use products from the January-April Mini catalog to create simple cards, with the option to “step them up”. Hop all around the world to see what our design team created for you!

Starting off simple: Blueberry Bunches are beautiful simply stamped on a Crumb Cake background and a white focal point! A strip of Glorious Gingham DSP brings a country-fair feel to this simple card.

Step it up by die cutting the top layer from the Everyday Details dies and color the blueberries with Stampin’ Blends.

For AVID crafters, you can really create a masterpiece when you:

  • Emboss blueberry branches in white on a Blueberry Bushel card base
  • Add a few layers of card stock and Designer Series Paper
  • Watercolor the fruit on watercolor paper using ink refills or watercolor pencils (use StazOn ink to stamp image for watercoloring).
  • Fussy cut the blueberry bunch and pop it up using dimensionals
  • Use Stampin’ Blends to color basic rhinestone jewels for added sparkle

Remember to stamp a layer for inside the card, if the base is a dark color, and don’t forget to stamp your envelope to match!

Scoot off to visit these simple-to-stepped-up ideas and leave a comment on your favorite posts or projects…and save them to give it a try:

Water(color) Melon for Sale-a-Bration

Many of our 2024 Sale-a-Bration freebies coordinate with a new product in the January-April mini catalog, so today I’m showing you how the Watercolor Melon SAB stamp set (an option you can choose free with a $50 order) coordinates with the Modern Oval punch, and that punch *also* matches the Filled with Happiness stamp set!

Let’s say you purchased the Modern Oval punch and Filled with Happiness stamp set and a set of Stampin’ Blends markers, NOW you qualify for a free Sale-a-Bration product…like the Watercolor Melon stamp set!

Hey look! They work interchangeably!

Let’s get a close-up look at these two similar-but-different cards:

Lay down your card stock strips and stamp the “It’s a Good Day” stamp on the white layer BEFORE you emboss it with the Sweet Citrus Hybrid 3-D Embossing Folder.

Stamp the same image again, color in with Stampin’ Blends and punch out the center with the Modern Oval punch to lift up in the center with dimensionals!

Moving on with a similar idea…

Use the slices and wedges of watermelon as your background, then turn your card stock stripes vertically. Use the full watermelon (punched with the Modern Oval) as the place to put your sentiment, which came from the Filled with Happiness set! Isn’t it nice how they all coordinate for bright and beautiful card making?

I guess you could call this one a “Thanks-a-Melon” card! Remember the inside- stamping a little slice of melon with seeds carries the theme through the card.

What are you waiting for? Choosing something free NOW with your qualifying order gives you time to order AGAIN before Sale-a-Bration ends on February 29th, and everyone loves a gift-with-purchase!

New At SU!- Autumn Leaves That Shimmer

Anything that sparkles, shines or shimmers catches the eye, and the New at SU! Design team is here to show off all the new GLITZ in the September-December Catalog or Online Exclusives! Make sure you hop around the globe (links below) and PIN your favorites to remember.

The Autumn Leaves bundle is magnificent and I chose to pair it with the Online Exclusive Tartan Foil Specialty Designer Series Paper:

With a little shimmer to the colored side, it makes you want to tip and turn the card to see it reflect the light! TIP: Use the Foam Adhesive strips behind the Designer Series Paper panels to lift them off the background.

With a few Speckled dots and a double bow of linen thread, this card mixes natural and shiny elements for just the right amount of beauty. It makes me look forward to the changing seasons and colorful trees.

Keep your eyes open as you move on to another post where you’ll be dazzled by something that Shimmers, Shines or GLOWS!

A Thank-You Faux Step Card

Have you explored the Online Exclusive products in my Stampin’ Up! Store? One of the ones I’ve been loving is the Hello, Irresistible Suite and this Faux Step Card is a snap to put together using the products in the suite!

This is a Portrait (tall) version of the Rain or Shine card I created a few months ago (watch the tutorial HERE) and the card base measurements are:

  • Card Base is 11″ x 4.25″ (scored at 2″, 4″ and 7.5″)
  • Designer Series Paper: 4″ x 1.75″ (Pretty Peacock lattice piece) and 4″ x 3.25″ (leaves).
  • Tall panel is 2.25″ x 11″, scored at 5.5″
  • Designer Series Paper is 2″ x 5.25″ (Flirty Flamingo pink piece)

Emboss the greeting in white embossing powder on Basic Black card stock and fussy cut for the front. I did use the now-retired white seam binding ribbon around the bottom step panel, but you can substitute any that you have in your collection.

The coordinating dies cut the flowers from both the stamp set AND the Designer Series Paper, as I’ve done here, and then I embellished with a few of the Frosted Dots (also in the suite) using mini glue dots to adhere to the center of the flowers, or scattered across the front.

Once you make this card, you’ll want to make many more just like it, so cut your paper accordingly! Shop the supplies here:

Complementary Colors in Card-Making

Understanding a COLOR WHEEL a little bit will help you put together beautiful color palettes for your stamping projects, and today we are talking about COMPLEMENTARY colors, or colors directly across from each other on the color wheel:

When you choose complementary colors, you create HIGH ENERGY in a palette, like this turtle card made from the Playing in the Rain stamp set from Stampin’ Up! using Azure Afternoon (blue) and Pumpkin Pie (orange):

You can always add a bit of a third color (in this case, Granny Apple Green) and still keep the two main colors in focus!

One thing I love doing with a new catalog is to look for card layouts I can copy. Both of the cards I am sharing today were inspired by this card on page 152 of the annual catalog (154 in the digital version):

This next complementary color card follows the same pattern or card layout, but uses the LOVELY new Lemon Lolly color paired with Fresh Freesia, which I cannot get enough of:

This time I used the Sweet Citrus stamps and dies (my signature for creative juice) and embossed the front panel with the Raindrops embossing folder after I stamped the greeting.

All of this is shared in my weekly video, and if you are like me and want it to play faster, just speed up the playback by clicking on the gear at the bottom of the YouTube video!

Now you know a little more about complementary colors, try it yourself! Find a card design in the catalog (or use one of my previous samples here on CJBL) and re-create it with your own colors and stamps.

If you want to copy one of the cards I shared today, here are the supplies I used for both cards:
