Polaroid Picture Card: Reverse Masking Technique

It’s easy to miss the Masking Paper in the Stampin’ Up! catalog, and you may not even know why you NEED it, so I’m here to tell you why you do.

It’s like a full sheet of thin post-it note stickiness that allows you to do some pretty cool things with your ink and blending tools. For this card, I made a reverse mask for both the sunset background and the tree with the Masking Paper, then used the Tree Lot Dies from Sale-a-Bration pt. 2 to create the cute little Airstream camper:

Here’s the video tutorial:

The Tree Lot dies are wonderful to use by themselves, and the coordinating stamp set “Trees for Sale” extends the creative possibilities through the holiday season and beyond! Just remember that they are free (while supplies last) through August 2022.

Have a good time trying this technique in your stamping studio and share your version in my Creative Juice Crafter’s Corner Facebook Group!

New at SU!-Perfect Pomegranate for Hosts!

The NEW AT SU! design team is back to show you some #simplestamping projects this month using products available FREE during Sale-a-Bration!

First, What is Simple Stamping? Remember it this way: S.I.P. = Stamps, Ink and Paper! Sometimes we add an embellishment (like ribbon or sequins) or a tool like a punch, but we are keeping it simple so that ANYONE can create these projects!

July and August is Sale-a-Bration at Stampin’ Up! and there are products you can select FREE with a qualifying order ($50 in the US), products you can earn in *addition* to our generous Host Rewards and special products included as a bonus in your starter kit when you JOIN.

I’m using the Perfect Pomegranate stamp set that you earn free as a HOST…with a $300 party or personal order (before shipping).

The bold images in this stamp set make simple stamping quick and easy, and the DistINKtive style of stamp gives you different shades of color with one ink pad. Because there are no sentiments in this set, you can add any saying you already have.

I chose to sprinkle a few Iridescent Rhinestones on the pomegranate panel to give it a bit of sparkle. They catch the light and the colors, making it feel fancy.

Want to re-create this layout? The pieces you need are: Card base (4-1/4″ x 11″) and layer to stamp on (4-1/4″ x 3″) plus a scrap for the second pomegranate (fussy cut), background layer (3-1/2″ x 3-1/4″) and sentiment (1″ x 2″)

Don’t stop here…visit all the other stops on the hop to get inspiration for SIMPLE STAMPING ways to use your Sale-a-Bration Freebies!

One-Sheet-Wonder Cards for ANY Occasion

Since I’ve been on vacation for a few weeks, I woke up so excited to get back into my craft room and do a LIVE stamping video on my Facebook page today at lunchtime, and I was able to MULTI-CRAFT for a few occasions: My parent’s 58th Anniversary, to show you a wonderful Sale-a-Bration stamp set AND to participate in the Global Design Project Theme Challenge #GDP351 about SHAPES:

I pulled out the Watercolor Shapes stamp set to create my own patterned paper on a full sheet of white card stock using Fresh Freesia, Soft Sea Foam, Pale Papaya and Pool Party ink pads. Next, I cut the paper into 7 different pieces and layered them on card bases, then I stamped the greetings from the Amazing Phrasing stamp set you could choose as your Sale-a-Bration freebie (with a $100 US order). To give them a bit of bling, I added sparkly Adhesive-Backed Sequins & Gems.

You can watch the full tutorial (and fast forward through me talking) on my Creative Juice by Loni Facebook page HERE because I don’t have time to edit it for YouTube today.

Seven cards from one sheet of patterned paper:

Then I finished one more with a layer of black card stock:

How clever is it to use the gems & rhinestones to create a little exclamation point?!

During Sale-a-Bration you earn free craft supplies when you shop, host a party (yes, I do virtual parties too!) or join my team (and if you are buying more than $99 anyway, the starter kit is the best deal!)

New at SU: He’s the Man Box

It’s SUITE SUMMER STAMPING for our June New at SU! hop, which means we each chose a suite from the Annual catalog to showcase, and created a summer-themed project(s) for you using the supplies from that suite. Don’t miss any of the great projects…hop through them ALL and socialize with us by leaving a comment about what you like the most!

I always need more masculine cards, gifts and projects, so I am showing off the versatility of the He’s the Man Suite. While I made Father’s Day projects for that summer celebration, these projects can easily be changed into birthday or anniversary gifts.

The first thing I thought was that the grilling stamp “Holy Smokes You’re Amazing” would look good on a box of grilling spice blends, so I created this box for the Master of the Grill!

In the video tutorial, I explain HOW I made this box, just in case the spices you choose to add to the box are a different size. Or you can make the box and use a different piece of the Designer Series Paper and roll up a tie to fit inside the box and change out the embellishments. It’s pretty simple, but with so many possibilities!

It’s a good sized box from one piece of 11″ x 7″ Sahara Sand card stock plus a 3.5″ x 7″ piece of Designer Series Paper. The finished box size is 4.5″ x 3.5″ x 1.75″:

BONUS PROJECT: Last Monday, I used the same He’s The Man Suite supplies to create a simple mini album on my Facebook Page, and while it’s not my best video, you get the gist and can very quickly create a similar album in just a few minutes with all the fun die cuts included in the Designer Series Paper!

Don’t stop here! Here’s are the other New at SU! Design Team members with their SUITE summer projects to share with you:

With You I’m Never Lost

Cody and I recently returned from a 6+ week road trip back to see our kids and grandkids in Maryland. He joked that we planned to drive out together, but if things didn’t go well, one of us could fly home 😂 Luckily, we did remarkably well, and enjoyed discovering so many amazing places across the US:

It seems fitting for our relationship that he’s the person I love to “get lost” with– but with him, I’m home.

This week’s #gdp346 sketch from the Global Design Project blog was perfect for a card I’m going to save for our Anniversary:

Cody teases me that “every day is an adventure” together, so the compass stamp was fitting. I LOVE the die cut pieces in the Designer Series Paper and I used one of them as the focal point.

Sunshine and Songbird Mashup

Often I get stuck on trying to ONLY use the stamps in one stamp set, but this card was inspired by the sensational Rays of Light background stamp and a few extra songbirds I had left over from cards I had made for a swap with my team…it’s a MASHUP of 3 different new products and just makes me smile!

The Opal Rounds embellishments add just the right amount of light-catching sparkle.

Do your part to brighten the world…mail a hand-stamped card just because!

Watercolor Inspired by Charlet

The saying, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” is true for the card I created today, inspired by a card from demonstrator Charlet Mallett on the Global Design Project #344:

I really loved her watercolored image and knowing that some of you are intimidated by watercoloring, I wanted to make it really simple. This is simple enough that ANYONE could do it:

I stamped the flower image from the Blessings of Home stamp set in opposite corners of a 3-1/2″ x 4-3/4″ piece of Watercolor paper (the key to a beautiful watercolored background), then used ink pads from the Subtles color family as my palette to pick up the color (from the inside of the lid, see example here) using Water Painters.

What I love about watercoloring is: It’s MESSY and BEAUTIFUL!

TIP: Keep a piece of scratch paper and a paper towel at hand to “practice” on and wipe off your Water Painter when you move to a new color…just squeeze the barrel to run the water and wipe the brush until no color transfers to the towel.

Mounted on a piece of Basic White card stock as a frame (3-3/4″ x 5″) and then attached to the front of a Pool Party card base, it’s a simple card that makes you feel like Picasso and the sentiment embossed in white on black card stock really stands out against the watercolored background.

Give this technique a try soon!
