Good Morning, Magnolia: What’s New Blog Hop

Whats new (2)Welcome to our first “What’s New at SU!” Blog Hop through the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog! As an international group of demonstrators, we look forward to sharing ideas to inspire you to get out your rubber stamps to create something special in your own craft room.

I’ve chosen to showcase the Magnolia Lane Suite~ an absolute stunning collection of coordinating products that would make Chip & Joanna Gains drool.

This card came together so perfectly with very basic stamping, a bit of DSP, a punch, and the coordinating Magnolia Memories Dies. Using the decorative edge die on both the top and bottom of the Petal Pink panel left room for the stripes to peek out.

The Story Label punch isn’t part of the suite, but gave the sentiment a focal point, and by punching two holes on the ends, I could thread the Mossy Meadow twine through to secure it to the card.

Mimicking the elegant edge on the inside gives extra attention to your hand-written expression of appreciation and finishes off the greeting card with style:

Best Catch: What’s New At SU! Blog Hop

It’s easy to make a frilly, pretty card…but sometimes it’s a challenge to create something for the guys. Never fret: We are here to help!

whats new at su header

These are some talented demonstrators from all over the globe who have come together to jump-start your “masculine” card making skills, so make sure you hop through all the blogs and tell us what you love and what you want to see more of!

I’m sharing a gift card holder I created for my husband’s birthday using the BEST CATCH bundle from the Occasions Catalog:

To create the card base, I used a piece of 12″ x 5.5″ Very Vanilla card stock and scored it at 4-1/4″ and 8-1/2″. On the last panel, you can cut diagonally OUT from the 8-1/2″ score mark and then fold it inside the card, adhering it to the bottom of the card with Tear & Tape adhesive, forming a pocket. You could insert cash, a gift card or a photo into the pocket. Not just for birthdays, but Father’s Day or Anniversaries, too!

Watermarked1(2019-05-01-1205)

For the front of the card, I started with a 3-5/8″ x 4-7/8″ panel of Very Vanilla card stock and cut a mask from a piece of scratch paper, laid it over the panel about 1/3 of the way up and sponged water with Pool Party ink. Keep the other piece of the mask to lay over the water and sponge the sandy shore above the water with Crumb Cake ink.

Next you’ll cover your sand with a mask and sponge a sunset: I started with Poppy Parade and then blended in Pumpkin Pie, Mango Melody, and Daffodil Delight ink with my sponges. Finally, sponge Night of Navy all the way around the edges and layer it on a 3-3/4″ x 5″ Navy Mat.

The fish is stamped in Black Memento Ink and colored with Stampin’ Blends, then cut, along with the reeds, using the coordinating dies. I love blending different colors on the fish! HINT: Save 10% when you purchase the stamps & dies together in a bundle by June 3rd.

Diane always has something amazing to share, so hop over to her blog next, or skip back to Cheryl’s blog to see her guy-inspired project~ Both featuring the Geared Up Garage product suite!

What’s New at SU! Blog Hop: Rectangle Stitched Framelits

whats new at su header

Thanks for joining us as we “hop” through the 2019 Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog ~ This worldwide group of demonstrators are thrilled to share exciting new creative ideas with you!

There are few things as versatile in your craft stash as “Basic Shapes” tools, so I’m delighted to showcase the new Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies:

148551g

One of the things I love about these framelits is that they cut a rectangle, but leave stitching on the inside AND outside of the shape!

Watermarked2(2019-02-06-1439)

Let’s learn how to make a landscape Lever Card using your rectangle framelits and the Amazing Life stamp set (bundle both items together and you save 10%!).

Watermarked3(2019-02-06-1440)

For this card you’ll also need:

  • Card base (I used Granny Apple Green card stock): 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/5″
  • Inside layer (white): 4″ x 9-1/2″ scored at 3″, 6″ and 9″
  • Designer Series Paper-DSP- (I used Tropical Escape): 4″ x 5-1/4″
  • One more piece of white card stock for front layer
  • Ink: Granny Apple Green, Shaded Spruce, Night of Navy
  • Big Shot

Apply adhesive **just around the outside edge** of your DSP and adhere to front of card, then cut frame out with the Big Shot and separate the two pieces you cut out.

Stamp the inside layer (white) and fold into a “Z” and adhere the 3″ panel to the inside  of the open card toward the right end (see photo above). Next, mark the 1/2″ tab through the window as shown (below left).

Cut out between the lines and along the score line with your scissors. I used Tear & Tape adhesive on the small tabs, then adhered the tabs to the front of the card just by closing the card. (Above, right)

Apply adhesive JUST TO THE WHITE layer you see through the front window and lay the green rectangle you cut out at the beginning right back into that opening. (It will only stick where the adhesive is on the white layer.)

Stamp and embellish a smaller rectangle to layer on top of front (swinging) panel.

Watermarked5(2019-02-06-1440)

I used the extra rectangle of DSP for the middle panel of the inside of the card…just used the other side of the pattern, so there’s very little waste! Watermarked4(2019-02-06-1440)

Your comments or questions about this card are welcome! Then continue on your Occasions Catalog tour with Pat or pop back to see Anke’s creativity.

Here’s a classic example of the versatility of this bundle~ A pillow box gift: Perfect for a wedding gift or favor, or for a New Year treat!

Watermarked2(2018-07-31-1232)

The Kraft Pillow Box makes this project so simple! My favorite thing about the Color Your Season bundle has to be the labels: They come in 3 sizes (this is the smallest) and the stitching is on the label AND on the negative space (not shown in this example but you’ll see it along the blog hop).

Watermarked1(2018-07-31-1232)

While you could use the new watercolor pencils to color your projects, I chose to pull out my Stampin’ Blends. Did you know the Rich Razzleberry blends match the Berry Burst Metallic Edge Ribbon? It’s our color co-ordination shining through.

It took me less than 5 minutes to craft this project: Can you imagine? What a wonderful use of your creative time 🙂

Tell me how you like to color in the comments before you hop along to the next blog!NEXT

Animal Outing- What’s New at Stampin’ Up! Blog Hop

whats new at su header

Hooray for a new Stampin’ Up! catalog! It’s a perfect shot of creativity to start off the summer stampin’ season. If you’ve hopped over from Anke’s blog, you know how tickled we are to share new stamps from the 2018-2019 Annual Catalog: I’m taking you on an “Animal Outing”!Watermarked2(2018-05-31-1438)

This little rhino and his bird friend pack a BIG amount of heart as they express gratitude for a kindness rendered! Other animals in the stamp set include a kangaroo, a koala, a giraffe and a frog.

Here’s a little tip for coloring on Smoky Slate paper: Use the white SU! Watercolor pencil to color the bird (and the rhino’s horn) first- then you can add color over the bird with the other pencils! The white base helps the other colors pop more.Watermarked1(2018-05-31-1438)

After coloring, I cut out the head and popped it up on the front of the card with Mini Stampin’-Dimensionals to make Mr. Rhino come alive. Don’t be afraid to fussy-cut: Keep your scissors stationary and move your paper as you cut to make it easier.

Watermarked3(2018-05-31-1438)
