A Sketch to Show a Palette

As I prepare for my annual Stampin’ Soiree & BOGO Sale this Saturday (featuring a NEW Stampin’ Up!®️ Catalog and Online Exclusives), I wanted to make a few samples with some of the fresh products coming tomorrow, May 6th! Since multi-tasking is the only way this one-woman show can get things done, I chose a simple sketch, which doubles as a way to show the color palette, and used it for my lunchtime live crafting video, too:

The first card I demonstrated was inspired by the #tgifc523 color challenge of Petnunia Pop, Balmy Blue and Daffodil Delight:

Starting simple – no mat on this card (though you certainly could add one), I stamped flowers from a new Online Exclusive bundle, Impressions Abloom on top of the 3-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ panel, then added 1-3/16″ squares of the colored card stock to the bottom:

When crafting from a sketch, give yourself some freedom to make changes! I didn’t add the palette to the Poppin’ By card, but used the darling filmstrip die to add the border at the bottom:

My favorite thing about this set is probably the tennis shoes you could add to the bucket of popcorn:

Moving along, let’s take that sketch and turn it SIDEWAYS, which is what I did for the Notes & Totes bundle from the new catalog, which I paired with the 2025-2027 In Colors (from bottom to top: Secret Sea, Timid Tiger, Cloud Cover, Darling Duckling & Strawberry Slush):

And finally, I used some Celebration Expressions Memories & More Cards to make this Happy Birthday card, and my friend Barb’s Million Dollar Stamp Set Layered Thoughts, this time putting the color palette below the main panel:

To see me create two of these cards (and share some tips), watch this:

If one of these new items or colors is something you must have, visit my Stampin’ Store starting on May 6th to make an order, or click on the Stampin’ Supplies link under any card you love.

See all these samples IN PERSON – and MORE – at the Stampin’ Soiree, Saturday May 10th in Hurricane, UT. It’s FREE and open-house style, so plan to drop in with a friend between 1-4 pm!

One more announcement: If your wish list is long, the best value for Saavy Stampin’ Shoppers is the STARTER KIT, and starting tomorrow, May 6th, you can choose MORE in your starter kit, with no strings attached!

Using In Colors with Confidence

If choosing colors to use in your crafting is daunting, I have a tool for you!

The new 2023 In Color Coach will be going out with my email this week (if you aren’t subscribed yet, you will get it when you join my email list) and in Lunchtime Crafting LIVE today (video below), I showed a few examples using the page featuring the 2023-2025 In Colors.

Stampin’ Up! created Copper Clay, Wild Wheat, Boho Blue, Moody Mauve and Pebbled Path (in the order they are on my Classic Birthday Card) to set the TONE for the next two years as “In” colors. A tone is a pure color (HUE) with GREY added.

These colors feel “retro” and “earthy” when I look at them…what adjective would you choose?

While they look fabulous together, they can also be combined with other colors from our collections and I used the Color Coach to create two more examples:

When I combined Boho Blue with Lost Lagoon, Petal Pink and Misty Moonlight, it felt SEA-worthy, so I put them on a Crumb Cake beachy background and used the new Circle Sayings bundle for a summer “Thinking of You” card.

Next, I looked at Moody Mauve and the Color Coach suggested pairing it with Petal Pink again and Flirty Flamingo. It needed one more color, and the new CORE color of Bubble Bath felt just right. The Crafting with You bundle was ideal for this Handmade Hug card. All these new products are available MAY 2, 2023 from the new Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. Shopping links will be added at the bottom of this post on that day.

I “quilted” the background by running it through the Basics 3-D folder. This reminds me so much of a quilt I’ve snuggled under as a child!

Let me show you how to make the cards above and use the Color Coach to find a pretty palette:

Daffodil Dies: Add a POP of Color

Black & White is a classic, elegant color combination, but when you add a POP of color, a card becomes stunning!

In my LIVE broadcast today, I teach you how to stack the individual pieces from the Daffodil Dies to craft a bundle of flowers on top of a black & white polka-dot background. While I chose Melon Mambo as my “POP” of color, you could use yellow, purple or bright blue!

Having a few shades of the pink really helped these flowers feel real (lightest to darkest: Blushing Bride, Polished Pink, Melon Mambo).

It certainly brightened my day to make these fabulous cards!

A Color Revamp

A question I fear: “What is your favorite color?”

Me: WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME CHOOSE? It’s like asking which child is my favorite: It depends on which one is making me happy at the moment!!

Just kidding (kind of)…but colors are the same for me: If it’s fall, I’m using earth tones for my creations. Am I trying to cheer someone up? Then it’s bright, vibrant hues. My favorite changes as often as my underwear!

Speaking of changes, I’m looking forward to this one from Stampin’ Up! in June:

color revamp

Keeping things fresh and on-trend, we are updating our palette…and you are going to love it too.

Fresh Sketch and My Color Phase

Do you go through color phases? Meaning you are really drawn to a certain color palette for a while, then something else catches your eye and everything you create for a period is variations on a theme? Yep, that’s me. I found this color combination and pinned it to my Color Palette board on Pinterest, and I keep coming back to it because it makes me so happy:

In Stampin’ Up! colors, they are Basic Gray, Very Vanilla, Sahara Sand and Baja Breeze. Thus, my submission for the Freshly Made Sketch at the top stamped with the Blooming with Kindness stamp set (page 87 of current catalog), another one of my current favorites. In fact, I’m teaching a class with this stamp set in September and would love to have you there!

So what is your current (Stampin’ Up!) color obsession? Do you have one color you are always drawn to or a set that you love to use? Share with me in the comments and one lucky person will get this card from me in the mail! It’s even prettier in person 🙂

(P.S. Today–August 31– is the last day to join my Stampin’ Family and get the Halloween Printer’s Tray FREE)

Color My World!

Why ARE there so many songs about rainbows?
My husband always teases me about referring to colors in Stampin’ Up! vernacular: “That’s not orange,” I’ll correct him, “That is PUMPKIN PIE!” Every color has a proper name, and I use it!

Well, Stampin’ Up! made a wonderful announcement on Monday about our new COLOR RENOVATION and I’m very excited to share it with you! If you have ever renovated a room or a whole home, you know that the new look is better than the old look…and the same is true here! As of July 1st, our new color COLLECTIONS will look like this:

You will see some returning IN COLORS from years past, and a sneak peek at a few NEW colors that are surely part of every perfect rainbow 🙂 This renovation will help you look at colors in a whole new way, and I’m drooling with anticipation, myself.
But before you get too excited, we must also say farewell to some well-loved hues:

If these colors have been some of your favorites, you have until June 30th to order ink refills for your pads, stock up on card stock and matching accessories! Visit my website to order anytime.

I guess the answer to the question is that a rainbows bring color and wonder to the world, and Stampin’ Up! is doing our best to bring that delight to you.
