Wildly Happy to Craft!

It’s Fri-YAY because sketch challenges make me WILDLY HAPPY! It’s a creative exercise I look forward to as often as I have a moment to create. If you need to strengthen your imagination, sketch and color challenges are the best “strength training” you can do.fb_img_1560993860054

Something else that makes me WILDLY HAPPY is babies: Grandbabies, baby animals, whatever! And stamps make me giddy, of course, and the Wildly Happy stamp set is the first one that came to mind when I saw the #tgifc220 sketch.

This was also a great excuse to use the Rectangle Stitched Framelit dies: What’s not to love about that adorable little detail? wildly happy

I added just a bit of light Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blend marker to the bunnies and grounded them with light Crumb Cake. If you don’t have the polka dot tulle ribbon, make sure it’s on your next order: It will be your favorite accessory for your cards, and you don’t even need much to give it a little pizzazz.

Gingham-Style Multi-Crafting

“Multi-Crafting”= the act of creating a greeting card for more than one purpose

You know you are an avid paper crafter when you can’t bear to throw away “useable scraps” of Designer Series Paper and now I feel justified in saving the strips from my Gingham Gala paper pack: It was the theme of  #tgifc213

213

WHY this DSP isn’t carrying over into the new catalog is beyond comprehension, but make sure you order your Gingham Gala paper stack before it’s gone- or by June 3rd- whichever comes first.

I demonstrated how to make this card on my Facebook Page for my weekly live crafting video today and it’s so adorable~ Do you ever stamp an image that just makes you giggle with delight? Totally happened here.

Watermarked(2019-05-27-1404)-2

Since I was Multi-Crafting, it occurred to me that I could do another version with a sneak peek of a new stamp set (coming in the 2019-2020 catalog on June 4th) that would work with #GDP191

GDP191 - May 27Watermarked(2019-05-27-1404)

And that was just the beginning of a full-blown gingham-style craft-attack:

Watermarked(2019-05-27-1408)

The good news is I have a bunch of thank you cards to mail out to customers, I’ve used up most of my Gingham bits & pieces, I can check off my Monday LIVE video on my task list, and can participate in two creative challenges. I think I’ll take the rest of the day off 🙂

Sale-a-Bration Coordination: Lasting Lily

If you hate fussy cutting, this will surely thrill you: For the first time ever, Stampin’ Up! has created products that coordinate with our Sale-a-Bration offerings~ stamps, punches and framelit/thinlit dies are available to purchase that will enhance the free stamps you earned, and they are only available during March 2019:

Screen Shot 2019-03-02 at 6.52.16 AM

Today I’m going to spotlight the Lily Framelit Dies that cut out all the blooming beauty of the Lasting Lily stamp set that you could choose free with a $100 order before March 31, 2019.

It was good luck that the Global Design Sketch Challenge #GDP178 sketch and the TGIF Challenge #TGIFC201 color combination combined perfectly to create my card:

Watermarked4(2019-03-02-0713).jpg

In addition to the framelits include pieces to cut out the flowers and greenery, but there are two label dies that perfectly frame most of the sentiments in the stamp set:

Watermarked2(2019-03-02-0712)

**A tip for ensuring your stamped images fit in the framelits for the stems and leaves: When mounting your stamps, lay the photopolymer stamps face down on your surface to let the stamp assume the correct shape, then set the clear block on top of it to pick it up for stamping.

IMG_0381

Because photopolymer stamps are pliable, they can be manipulated into different shapes, so if you put it on with your fingers, it may stretched in a way the stamped image wouldn’t match the framelit.

It felt like keeping this card simple really let the lilies shine!

Disney Dog Daydreaming

Disneyland is my happy place: Just thinking about a day in that magical park brings a smile to my face! Yes, I’m over 50, but like Peter Pan…I won’t grow up if it means I can’t enjoy the delight and wonder that is the happiest place on earth, and I never miss a Disney movie, live action or animated.

195

Thus, I’ve been noodling on the TGIF Challenge #195 since it was announced last Friday, and had a brainstorm when I was creating with the Happy Tails bundle from the 2019 Occasions Catalog, I had a jolt of inspiration! I think it’s “spot on”:

watermarked2(2019-01-23-0959)

You may recall from 101 Dalmations how the pet owners’ personalities were all reflected in the dogs they owned…it’s become a habit to observe how often that is true! What do you think: Does Tiger look anything like me??

JPEG image-1B3DF62D8F9D-1.jpeg

If we don’t share any physical resemblance, we certainly share the “easily distracted” trait!!

To make the letters stand out, I used the Real Red Stampin’ Marker and just rubbed it along the edge of the letter…sometimes I ran over and marked up a letter, but just use a black marker and make a bigger “spot” to cover your mistakes. I’m a “close-enough” crafter, so I don’t mind a few marks to indicate that “I cared enough to make you the very best card I could”:

watermarked1(2019-01-23-0959)-2

If you’d like to create your own, you may order the supplies from my Stampin’ Store below, and I’d wag my tail AND send you a thank you card! Don’t forget that for each $50 you order through March 31, 2019, you earn a FREE Sale-a-Bration product, too.

Give My Regards to Broadway

My husband and I recently experienced New York City for the first time with our daughter and it was a surprisingly wonderful experience. From biking around Central Park to the Statue of Liberty, we painted the town for 3 days (and I found some creative juice)!

My favorite part had to be Broadway, though. I began my college career with the intent of studying musical theater, so that has a place in my heart. We only had time to see one show and we chose “Dear Evan Hansen”.

Do NOT miss the opportunity to see this incredible musical (by the same guys who wrote Greatest Showman) if you get the chance: But don’t make the mistake I did of going without a box of kleenex. And I *ugly cried*.

Today I wanted to pay tribute to that amazing vacation with a stamp, of course! So here’s one you are going to love playing with: The Broadway Bound suite from Stampin’ Up!

Watermarked(2018-06-10-0832)

This project was also inspired by the the #tgifc163 sketch challenge:

You can download the tutorial for my Broadway Birthday Bag HERE.

Know what else is TOTALLY AWESOME about the Broadway Bound suite? The June Paper Pumpkin Kit is going to coordinate with it!

Did you notice the “subscribe by” date? Yep, that’s TODAY. So if you are reading this after June 10th, you may have to cross your fingers that they have some kits left that they will post for sale around June 26th…but you still have to be a subscriber to order them, so what are you waiting for?

Get to the Point

There are plenty of good men in the world, and the best are awesome dads! I decided to use the Truly Tailored bundle from the Occasions Catalog and the #tgifc159 sketch challenge to create a tri-fold card befitting those great guys:tgif2bchallenge2bbuttons2b2018-021

Here’s my card:

Watermarked2(2018-05-14-1510) 2

Then you open up the card a fold-at-a-time to see this:

Here are a few tips to create your own: I started with a 4-1/4″ x 11″ Crumb Cake card stock base scored at 5″ and 10-1/2″. Next I put the Tailored Tag punch all the way in on one end and punched (keep the tag you punched out for the front!):

IMG_7347

Use a 4-1/4″ x 5″ piece of Designer Series Paper for the pointed flap (True Gentleman DSP used here, but sadly sold out…a good reminder not to procrastinate now that the retired list is out). I cut a 2-1/8″ square of card stock in half diagonally and adhered half on each bottom corner: Cut them off with your scissors for a perfect point!

IMG_7346

Then you’ll adhere the DSP to the 1/2″ top of your card base that was scored. Stamp the sentiment on the punched out piece of card stock and use the Bow Builder punch to create a bow tie (which also retires at the end of May- order it soon if you don’t have it!) and attach it with a mini Stampin’ Dimensional or glue dot to the end of the pointed flap:

Watermarked1(2018-05-14-1509) 2

I stamped and punched out another greeting from Very Vanilla card stock to attach to the inside of the card, letting it peek through the window of the second flap:

IMG_7358

You can use strips of DSP to add anywhere you feel needs a finishing touch. Finally, when you open up the second flap to the inside of the card, I added the “Happy Father’s Day” sentiment from the Guy Greetings stamp set:

Wish your dad a Dapper Day and

Birthdays, Blooms and a Class for You!

Whenever I get a moment to create just for fun, it’s a special day. Today I wanted to play, but had work to do first. Once work was done, I rewarded myself with stamping time following the #tgifc155 sketch:

tgif2bapril2b20182bchallenges_new-001

As I’m getting geared up for the Perennial Birthday Box & Cards Class next week in Utah County (have you registered?) I wanted to showcase the versatility of this simply lovely stamp set, Perennial Birthday:

145760g

I also wanted to use a few retiring Stampin’ Up! colors, so pulled out my Wisteria Wonder, Wild Wasabi and Peekaboo Peach (with a little Soft Saffron that isn’t retiring) and did an emboss resist card for the challenge:

Watermarked(2018-04-13-1400)

The Wisteria card is also embossed with the quilt top embossing folder…if you missed it at Christmas time, you’ll be happy to know you can order it again when the 2018-2019 catalog sales period starts on June 1st.

RSVP for the Perennial Birthday Box & Cards class by Monday, April 16th so I can get your supplies in time for the class. Meanwhile, create something pretty with rubber stamps, ink and paper and share it to make the world a lovelier place!

Lemon-Lime Daisy Twist

It finally snowed (on February 10th!) but it’s blooming in my craft room!

Watermarked1(2018-02-10-1405)

I wanted to try the #tgifc146 sketch challenge, and I just turned it on it’s side and replaced the heart with a daisy using a few of my favorite punches. tgif2bchallenge2bbuttons2b2018-0111

Use your bone folder and delicately curl the petals of your daisy (punch it twice) to give it a little dimension: Watermarked2(2018-02-10-1405)

It’s a VERY simple card to create and I hope you’ll have time to create your own and send it to someone who has served you recently!

Rockin’ Around the Tree

When I’m not playing with paper, I’m making music with 12 incredible young (and young-at-heart) people who inspire me to be a better teacher. This opportunity has molded me into a better pianist myself, but I often want to go back and HUG all my piano teachers for all they endured with me~ I can say with conviction, “THANKS, MOM, for not letting me quit (when it probably would have been easier to let me…)”

That aside, last night we held our Christmas Concert at a local Beehive Home (so it doubled as a service project, too!) and these budding pianists TOTALLY rocked the house:

IMG_6235

It’s a privilege for me to help students learn to play the piano and love music. I wanted to create a gift for them that was unique and sentimental to this performance, so I pulled out my papercrafting supplies and used the “Musical Season” stamp set for the purpose I intended: Ornaments!Watermarked1(2017-12-16-1342)

One of the students (Madi) even played “Little Drummer Boy” so it was a perfect gift!

As cute as the front is, the back really carries the message I want them to remember:

Watermarked4(2017-12-16-1343)

And it’s just as cute in white!

Watermarked3(2017-12-16-1343)

What could be better? Oh yes…that it also falls under the #tgifc138 Christmas Carol-Inspired Challenge! tgif2bchallenge2bbuttons2b2017-044

This Musical Season bundle is one of the most overlooked treasures in the Holiday Catalog, but will retire at the end of the year (or when supplies are depleted) so make sure to order yours from my store:

Simple Thoughts for a Friend

Do you ever avoid sending a note to a friend because you think you have to create a artistic masterpiece to carry your thoughts? I’m guilty of this, but I’m working on sending a message or a card *AS THE INSPIRATION HITS ME*

tgif2bchallenge2bbuttons2b2017-043

When I saw the sketch challenge on TGIF Challenges today, the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack came to mind and I decided to make a simple card for a friend:

Watermarked2(2017-12-08-1109)

Nurturing a friendship takes time and effort and sometimes a quick card to say, “I’m thinking about you” lasts longer than a text or even a phone call. Some things you could include in your card may be a bullet list of 5 things you love about your friend like:

  • Thanks for seeing the best in me and others.
  • You never let me wallow in self-pity and I appreciate your honesty.
  • Of all your features, your curly hair and dimples are what I see when I imagine your lovely face!
  • When I’m with you, I know I’m going to laugh heartily and it feels so good!
  • Isn’t it great that we can pick up right where we left off even if we haven’t seen each other in years?

Watermarked1(2017-12-08-1104)

My original card was 4.25″ square, but I had another piece of leftover Pool Party card stock, so I made a 3.25″ note card that would be perfect on a gift, too.

Product List

Now I’m going to mail it to a friend today because my goal for the year has been to mail a card each day and I’m almost there!
