New at SU: Beautiful Day for Love

It’s the New at SU! Design Team “Moms, Dads, Brides and Grads” blog hop!

Our international design team wants to help YOU get ready for all the big events coming in the next few months, so visit all the posts and PIN your favorites to try. I had fun creating this card for brides (and grooms) on a wedding day using the Blessings of Home Bundle…and BONUS, it’s perfect for gifting money to the newlyweds as it’s a large slimline card that fits in our coordinating Slimline envelopes

For this size of card, start with a piece of 8.5″ x 7″ card stock and score it in half at 3.5″ (finished card is 8.5″ x 3.5″).

Have you ever tried Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils? They are easier than you’d think to use and they give this card a soft effect, different than my usual preference for Stampin’ Blends. This is literally how I started…just by scribbling color onto my Watercolor Paper:

I do TRY to follow the lines and details of the image, then I use the Water Painters to blend the colors out, working from lightest to darkest. A tip for watercoloring: You will have MUCH better success when using Watercolor Paper or SU! Shimmery White paper, as they hold up to the moisture best and won’t “pill up” when you add water.

Once dry, use the dies to cut out the image for the front of your card. I’ve layered it onto some lovely Designer Series Paper.

I’m also practicing (but not proficient, yet) the art of the double bow, which I call “The Tammy” in honor of fellow demonstrator Tammy Wilson, whose cards are immediately identifiable by her lovely bows. Luckily for you AND me, she’s made a video, which I’ve watched and attempted numerous times on the Stampin’ Up! Facebook page. With enough practice, I’m confident my double bows will get better.

All the supplies I used are listed below, and you are ready to travel on to the next post in our Blog Hop:

Retirement Parade: So Long, Sweet Peach!

The New at SU! Design Team is bringing you a POP-UP PARADE featuring some of the products we have loved and are sad to see leave as the Retiring List for the Annual Catalog has been released. These items are only while supplies last, so don’t miss your opportunity to order them!

I chose to spotlight my beloved Sweet as a Peach Suite. The Designer Series Paper! The Stamps! The Dies! They have inspired so much creativity in my studio and this is actually the pop-up birthday card I made and sent my team members over the past 12 months:

It opens up to an EXPLOSION of peaches and birthday wishes:

It’s easy to make this explosion insert: Cut a piece of Designer Series Paper 6″ x 6″ and fold in half, then open it up and fold it in half DIAGONALLY in the opposite direction. Unfold it again, tuck the diagonal folds inside and glue the square pieces on the outside of the mechanism to the inside of the card. TIP: Observe the direction of your patterned paper and insert it into your card with the patterns going the right direction.

The best way it fits in your card is by making a binding on the top (or side, depending on orientation) of your card. For this card, I used a piece of 11″ x 4-1/4″ card stock scored at 5-1/2″ and 6-1/2″, then tied that shut with a piece of linen twine, with the second score on the top side of your card to help it open well. It makes the opening smaller than a traditional card and the explosion piece fits nicely inside.

The Sweet as a Peach Bundle (stamps + dies) is on sale through March 21st for 20% off in the Savings are In Bloom sale (along with the Mini Cut & Emboss Machine that the dies fit in), so now is the time to collect it for your craft stash! Retiring items are only while supplies last.

You are now ready to travel through the rest of the Retirement Parade! Hop through all the gorgeous retiring product projects below ~ you won’t want to miss any of the other “last chance” products we’ve loved and collect the fabulous ideas shared!

If you want to add these products to your craft studio before they are gone, you may order them from your demonstrator. Don’t have a demonstrator? Click the links below to shop from my Stampin’ Store!

New at SU! Case the Catalog Cactus Cuties

This month we are having so much fun expanding our creativity by getting inspiration from the Annual Catalog in our hop around the world! When you “Copy And Selectively Edit” – or CASE – a project from the catalog, you’ll expand your crafting ideas in ways you never dreamed of.

For instance, I was inspired by THIS card on page 157 of the Annual Catalog using the All for Baby bundle:

Using the Cactus Cuties from the January-June Mini catalog, this is my project inspired by that one:

It was surprisingly easier than I imagined! Here HOW TO:

  • On a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of basic white card stock, mask off the card at 1.75″ using washi or painters tape. Use a blending brush to add Pale Papaya ink to the first panel, getting lighter as you move up the card. Repeat and mask off the Papaya side AND farther down the card at 3.5″ for Soft Succulent. Then mask the first two colors and blend on Misty Moonlight.
  • Lay the mask over the card front and use a sponge dauber to color the pattern over the same colors. You may want to keep a mask over the other sections so you don’t get the colors mixed, but I just eyeballed it! It will help to tape the mask down on your desk so it doesn’t move and your card under the mask.
  • Stamp and fussy cut cactus. I used the punch only for the flowers.

Isn’t that just FUN? I had a blast making this card, truly!

Now you can now move on to Annette’s post to see how she was inspired by the annual catalog to create her project with the Symbols of Fortune suite from the January-June catalog. I hope this helps you look at the catalog as an Idea Book every day.

New at SU! Daffodil Daydream

With all the excitement of Sale-a-Bration, the New at SU! Design Team doesn’t want you to miss the lovely new stamps from the January-June Mini Catalog! Let’s see what is fresh and fun to craft with.

I chose to use the Daffodil Daydream bundle, along with the Daffodil Afternoon Designer Series Paper that you could choose free (through 2/28/22) when you purchase the bundle…and why not have some coordinating paper to craft with?

This card is a tri-fold card using the DSP as the base. Cut it to 6″x12″ and score at 4″ and 8″, then using your paper trimmer, cut a diagonal line from the fold on the back panel down to about 3″ on the left side (see photo below).

I enjoy making this type of card because the patterned paper already makes it look fabulous! A simple tag added to the front with a daffodil embossed on vellum (and colored on the back with Stampin’ Blends) is the focal point on the first panel, and while I used the Easter sentiment from the stamp set for the card, you could really stamp any greeting.

TIP: Dab a little liquid glue on the back of the vellum with a stampin’ sponge to adhere to the tag with no adhesive showing!

Will you try this card style? Which stamps and coordinating paper will you use to create it?

New at SU! Nuts About Squirrels

Hi there! Thanks for dropping in for inspiration from the Stampin’ Up! July-December 2021 Mini Catalog~ our International demonstrator design team will delight you with the projects we’ve created and we hope you’ll “try this at home” 😄

The Nuts About Squirrels stamp set had me going nutty, so I grabbed a Salted Nut Roll at the grocery store for these cute critters to give away!

Here’s the template for creating this gift box card~ start with a piece of 8-1/2″ x 7-1/2″ card stock:

Tip for window: After scoring the template (and before cutting the tabs), fold both 1″ sides in and and use washi tape to hold the stitched rectangle in place to cut the window on your Cut & Emboss machine. This is the best way to fit it through your machine and the inch on both sides helps you center the window.

These would also be cute to sit at a table for a fall event as place settings! I’ll list the supplies used below if you want to add them to your basket in my store (or jot them down if you have another demonstrator), then scamper over to the next project at Tricia’s Stamping Creations!

New at SU! Designer Series Paper

We’re back with project ideas from around the globe to help you use your favorite Designer Series Paper! And what perfect timing, as many of our pretty patterned papers are ON SALE this month (July 2021) for 15% off:

While the Expressions in Ink paper is a SPECIALTY paper (and not on sale), I wanted you to see how gorgeous it is with the gold veins running through the watercolor images, so take a look:

This is a fancy fold that shows off BOTH sides of your DSP and you can use as a card (portrait) OR a pocket card (landscape).

To make the card, begin with a 5-1/4″ x 11-3/4″ piece of Designer Series Paper and score it along the long side at 1-3/4″, 4-3/4″ and 7-3/4″. Next, accordion fold it so that you have the piece you want on top, then adhere the back of the largest panel to a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of card stock for a sturdy matte around your paper.

Here is the card open. I did tie the ribbon around the smallest panel and adhere it down so the ribbon won’t slide off, but you can leave the front flap free, if you’d like.

The Expressions in Ink Designer Series Paper also coordinates with the 2021-2023 In-Colors, so you can mix and match the designs and colors!

For this version, the measurements are the same, but I tied the ribbon all the way around all the layers of DSP before attaching it to the card stock matte, creating two “pockets” where you can slide the card you’ll write in in the top pocket and a gift card into the shorter pocket.

The photos really don’t do the sparkle justice, but I hope you get the feel for what you could create with it! I’ll list the supplies used at the bottom of this post.

Now it’s time to hop over to Linda’s blog to see what she’s created with the Hand-Penned paper~

New at SU! ~ Papaya, Peaches & Pockets

New Stampin’ Year, NEW IN COLORS! Welcome to our May 2021 New at SU! Blog Hop where we are sharing the 2021-2023 In Colors with you in a fresh new way: by sharing Fun Fold Cards to try in your own craft studio! You’ll want to PIN all these terrific card ideas, so let’s get hopping around the world with our design team so you can give it a try sooner than later!

I chose to focus on the Pale Papaya color because it happens to match my favorite Designer Series Paper, “You’re a Peach” and I started with the In Color Vellum – which is shimmery on one side, and oh, so pretty!

On to my project, a Vellum Slide-Out-Pocket gift card holder:

My card was inspired by fellow demonstrator Rachel Tessman

What a PEACHY way to give a gift card!

Here are the pieces you need to make this card:

  1. Pale Papaya Vellum: 11″ x 4-1/4″ scored at 2-1/4 from one end and 3-1/4″ from the opposite end.
  2. Designer Series Paper: 7-3/8″ x 3-1/2″. If your paper has a direction, you’ll want to score at 2-5/8″ from the top (so your pattern will go the correct way on the pocket) and 3/8″ from the bottom. When you assemble the pocket, the 3/8″ edge will actually adhere toward the top of the card (see image 3)
  3. Basic White card stock: 3-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ plus scraps to stamp on
  4. Pear Pizzazz card stock: 3-3/8″ x 2-3/8″
  5. Pale Papaya ribbon: 18″

I embossed the Pear Pizzazz card stock with the lovely Stitched Greenery die, then stamped and die cut my peach images (TIP: Ink up your peach stamp with Pale Papaya ink, then use a sponge dauber to lightly add a bit of Polished Pink ink to the edges)

Then follow these steps to assemble your card:

There is only Tear & Tape adhesive on the edges of the Designer Series Paper pocket and the 3/8″ top edge of the pocket, and then on the same spot on TOP of the vellum to adhere the card stock panel to the front of the card. No other adhesive is necessary!

I stamped “Happy BIrthday” on the back side of the front panel before assembling the card so it shows through when you open it.

Products used are listed below, and I appreciate your comments! Then jump over the pond to our Columbian in Germany~ Ximena’s post to find another fancy fold card featuring the In Colors:

New at SU!~ Butterfly Bokeh

You know we bring you the latest and greatest from Stampin’ Up! in our monthly “New at SU!” blog hops, but this month is a little different: Our design team decided to showcase some of our favorite RETIRING stamp sets *AND* show you some fabulous stamping techniques in the process.

I chose to use the Butterfly Gala stamp set and the coordinating Butterfly Duet punch to teach you the Bokeh technique. Yes, there are more butterflies coming (I’ve shown you the Butterfly Brilliance bundle available now as an early release) but there are none that coordinate with a punch, so if you don’t have a Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine (yet) or simply enjoy the convenience of a stamp set with a coordinating punch…NOW is the time to add both to your crafting arsenal.

Bokeh is a “blurry light” look in photography, and the concept converts well to paper crafting. I made two cards to show you how pretty the effect is as well as a few ideas on how to incorporate it into your crafting.

The Blending Brushes work beautifully for Bokeh: Begin by blending your colors onto a white piece of card stock.

Next, use a sponge dauber to add various depths of “blurry light” by sponging white ink through a template using a sponge dauber. I used different sized circle punches or circle layering framelits and a piece of window sheet so I could see where I wanted the circles to be. Did I mention that all our circle punches are also retiring???

After creating your Bokeh background, you can stamp directly on it with black in (as the first card sample shows) OR layer some small focal point on your card, leaving enough space to enjoy the background as well, as the “Hello Beautiful” card displays.

Now it’s on to Diane’s post to learn the Baby Wipe technique~ she is using the Arrange a Wreath stamp set that has been very popular with my customers this year!

New at SU! Shark Frenzy

Happy to have you here as our international blog hop team of demonstrators is showing you how delightful the products from the Stampin’ Up! January-June Mini Catalog are to craft with!

If your children (or grandchildren) have contributed to the BILLIONS of times “Baby Shark” has been viewed or listened to, you know the frenzy that surrounds this phenomenom

When my niece was born, a school teacher asked her older brother what they had names is new baby sister. He was struggling to pronounce “Charlotte” so he told the teacher his baby sister was “Sharky”. Naturally, she needed a SHARK FRENZY card to celebrate her recent age advancement (birthday)!

I noticed that the “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo” could also be sung as “Happy Birthday to You” I borrowed the “Happy Birthday” sentiment from the Hey Birthday Chick stamp set (the “to you” came from a past Paper Pumpkin set…they come in handy at times like these!) for the inside of this double-easel card.

To make a double easel card, make card base 11″ x 4-1/4″, scored at 5-1/2″ and a second piece of card stock 4-1/4″ x 5″ scored at 1″ and 3″ along the longer edge. Adhere the 1″ flap of the smaller piece to the bottom front edge of the card (with the score along the bottom edge) to create a double easel card base, then add layers of Designer Series Paper, embossed backgrounds or stamped images to embellish your card.

Combined with the Whale of a Time Designer Series Paper, you’ll SEA a lot of crossover versatility with the Shark Frenzy bundle!

Your demonstrator can help you order the supplies needed for a Sharky card, or if you don’t have a demonstrator, I’ve shared the supplies I used below (U.S. customers) Now bounce on over to Suzanne’s website for another darling animal to craft with: Kangaroo & Company!

Sale-a-Bration of 2021 (yes, there will be TWO this year) and the New at SU! group of international demonstrators want to make sure you can use the products you choose FREE (with your qualifying order) in simple, sensational and innovative ways! As you hop through our February event, tell us what you are inspired to try in your stamping studio.

The Darling Donkeys stamp set is one product you could choose free with a $50 purchase through February, and I imagined a vibrant In-Color card would be perfect to celebrate a birthday:

Starting with strips of the In-Color 2020-2022 colors on a piece of white card stock, I cut out the letters using the Playful Alphabet dies and then glued it to a card base. Then I looked at the letters I had cut out and thought perhaps I should make a second card with them:

That little donkey is just ready to cut loose and celebrate, isn’t he! He’s colored with Stampin’ Blends and I was tickled I could create a Twofer card (two-for-one).

Which do you like best?

The supplies I used are listed below, and kick up YOUR heels as you head over to Tricia’s site to see what she’s creating with the Approaching Perfection Sale-a-Bration stamp set.
