30 Years of Stamping

It’s a BIG milestone to commemorate: Today is my 30th Stampaversary!

That’s a looonnggg time to have a hobby AND a career that I love, and every day has been a joy!

I had just given birth to my second child when I joined Stampin’ Up! in 1992 and while I strongly feel Motherhood is a noble calling, I REALLY needed some adult conversation and a talent that made me feel validated. My babies were wonderful, but they never said, “Good job! You are so awesome!” (until they grew into adults).

That’s why I started… and I stayed because I found a family of other creative people who loved making and sharing pretty things: Some are part of my team and others are life-long customers, and some go back-and-forth from one to the other. It’s a privilege to help others discover their inner artist, and to find validation and joy in their talents.

What makes YOU happy and brings you satisfaction? If you are looking for a purpose and passion which spreads sunshine to others as well, there is a place for you with Stampin’ Up! Come sit by me.

Now, about that “Celebrate You” card… I gave my team a challenge to make a project inspired by sunflowers, and this was mine. The supplies will be listed below, and to make the background, I spritzed a piece of Fluid 100 watercolor paper with water, then used my clear blocks to pick up ink from my stamp pads and rubbed onto the wet paper. Once it was dry, I cut out the sunflowers and frame from Soft Suede card stock that I had pre-adhered adhesive sheets to, then they stuck to the front of the watercolored background. Trim around the edges and adhere it to a card base!

I’d like to think it’s because of my Stampaversary that SU! is having a 24-hour SALE on all stamps excluding hostess sets) in the Annual Catalog tomorrow (9/15/22)

If you choose to take advantage of this and add your favorite stamp sets to your cart, don’t forget to:

  • Stack on the savings by including some of the September Weekly Deals to your order (new deals arrive on Thursday)
  • Add your Perfect Partners bundle or dies to match a set you already have ~ these exclusive dies are only available in September (while supplies last).
  • Want to craft with us on World Card Making Day? You can add the Warm Welcome bundle (or one of the other suggested sets) to the same order. It’s a brand new set that will be in the 2023 Jan-June mini catalog!

Carried By Your Kindness

It’s been 2 1/2 months since my brother passed away unexpectedly and my mother had a heart attack on the same day (mom is doing well after they put in a stent), and I have been holding on to the beautiful cards, messages and thoughtful service rendered by my friends near and far.

You brought me homemade bread, soup, paper goods and flowers. You hugged me and physically held me up when I literally didn’t think I could stand. You visited with me and helped me laugh when it felt like all I could do was cry. You mailed me paper hugs and gift cards. You absolutely carried me through my first visit of grief, and I couldn’t forget to express my deepest gratitude for the love you offered!

I know there is life after death, thanks to the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This surety has helped me keep an eternal perspective through the most difficult days, knowing that I will see my brother- and other loved ones- again. You appeared as angels in your comfort and kindnesses to me. My heart is overflowing with appreciation for you.

Pink for October

Updated 10/29/19: Marni Maxwell is the winner of the giveaway! Hurrah!

The most frightening things in life aren’t monsters, witches and goblins. The scariest things are more personal and realistic, like loneliness, human cruelty and illness that can lead to loss of life. If you or someone you love is/has gone through cancer, you know how truly scary that can be.

Let’s pause the Halloween parade for a moment and find a way to give support to those who are struggling with cancer. Sometimes we don’t know what to say or do when a friend is going through illness: a card can be a tangible reminder that you are loving and praying for them always.

While I made this Tri-fold card pink for Breast Cancer awareness, you could easily change the colors to support the challenge you are consoling. IMG_3441-(W) 2

It opens twice, with plenty of space to write your message.IMG_3442-(W) 2

The internet is good for some things: When I was looking for what to write to someone with cancer, I found this article (from the cancer.livebetterwith website) had the best advice. Here’s a tidbit from Alison & Brian, who were interviewed for ideas:

” ‘Anecdotes of everyday life connect the reader back with the real world’ – and this can be a pleasant change for people who are spending lots of time at home in bed, or traveling to and from the hospital… Even small observations can really help to draw your reader out of their day-to-day routine and give them pause to think and reflect.”

Let’s make someone’s day: If you have a friend going through Breast Cancer now (October 2019), please leave a comment and tell me why they are special to you. I’ll draw a winner at random for the Support Ribbon Framelit Dies (for you to keep and make this card) and a lovely Breast Cancer Crusade Ribbon bracelet (for you to give to your friend)!

Winner will be drawn on October 28th.

Lean on Me

“When you meet someone, treat them as if they were in serious trouble, and you will be right more than half the time.”  – Henry B. Eyring

So many times we struggle alone, but it is our duty and privilege as human beings to “comfort the weary and strengthen the weak” (an excerpt from one of my favorite hymns). When I wrestle to know what to say or how to help, I turn to crafting to help  express what I cannot adequately convey, and the love just flows out of my hands.

This striking line art Artfully Aware stamp set is a blessing to have in your collection because it allows you send a hug made from card stock to someone who is hurting or fighting a battle:149447G

Here is a simple card I created that I know I will mail often:

Isn’t our burden lighter when we know someone else is there for us? Even if they can’t do anything, prayers and love are tangible in our lives.

I used the same design to create another card for any cause you wish to support as this set also coordinates with the Support Ribbon Framelits. I used Night of Navy, Pacific Point, Bermuda Bay and Pool Party for these cards, you could easily change the colors to match the ribbon color of any disease. Watermarked2(2019-04-12-0937)

In a Small Way…

Part of the Stampin’ Up! Statement of the Heart reads, “…in this we make a difference” and a beloved scriptures reminds me that even when my contribution is small, the Lord can use it for great good: “And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things.” (1 Nephi 16:29)

Wanting to do something to help those affected by the recent storms in the United States, I’ve donated to the Red Cross a portion of my August Commissions and I was grateful that Stampin’ Up! would match my donation (up to $50,000 from demonstrators and customers) so that means our efforts are doubled! This was a perfect opportunity to make a small donation much greater and one more way to celebrate and share the blessings I’ve received from my business over 25 years.
