Save Your Spot and Farewell to Fabric

A friend recently told me that she doesn’t read.

After staring at her with my mouth open for a few moments, I replied, “I know you CAN read. Do you mean you don’t have TIME to read?”

“No,” she replied. “I don’t like to read books.”

I seriously considered ending our friendship right then, but she is a delightful lady with a witty sense of humor and I decided that she was simply reading-challenged, and to be politically correct, I should treat her with kindness (and secretly some pity).

Reading is like breathing for me. I can’t even go to the bathroom without something to read (seriously). This is a legitimate concern for me:

If you are in the middle of at least 3 different books at one time, you will see the value of this brilliant idea:

I had some material left over from the Late Night Stampers Reunion party last year and these were really fun to make (the secret is using a glue gun). For the front, take a long strip of fabric (about 3″x24″. Tie a knot in one end and wind it up into a long twisted cord, keeping the print facing out. Glue the knot to the center of a felt flower and then spiral the cord around the center, gluing it down as you go.

The back is just two small hair bands, which allows it to fit different sizes of books 🙂 Thread the ribbon through the bands and glue the ribbon ends between the layers of the felt flowers on the front.
Project Recipe:
  • Stampin’ Up! Supplies: Summer Smooches fabric (125411), Buttons, Big Shot (113439), Fun Flowers Bigz L Die (121812), Ribbon. Click here to order any of these supplies.
  • Other: Felt, hair bands, glue gun and glue.
I’ll miss having fabric from Stampin’ Up! but the good news for any of you fabric crafters is that the fabric is 40% off right now…while supplies last and through the end of May 2013!

MDS Printing Prices Slashed! New Downloads, too!

new mds prices

And since yesterday was Tuesday, there are also NEW downloads for My Digital Studio…and did you notice that MDS isn’t just for scrapbooking? It can be used to create cards, calendars, home decor, tags, DVDs and even HALLOWEEN COSTUMES! How fun is that?

I think my favorite is the Year End Review Infographic…that’s UBER trendy!

I haven’t tried using MDS for fabric yet but there are a few great samples Here (Creepy Quilt by Heather Summers), Here (Pillows by Lindsey Horton) and Here (Baby Owl Set) . If you try it, come back and share in the comments, please!

Sew Sweet Apron!

What is sweeter than candy? This adorable ruffled apron made from Stampin’ Up! Candy Cane Christmas Designer Fabric!! But I don’t think it looks like Christmas, I think it looks more like Valentines 🙂

I followed the tutorial by Krista Maurer (found HERE) which she shared a few weeks ago on Good Things Utah. Our 100% cotton Designer Fabric (NEW in the Holiday Mini!) comes with 3 coordinating designs in large fat quarters (each piece measures approx. 28″x18″) so I just sewed two 4″ x 18″ pieces together to get the 4″x36″ strips called for, then added another piece of plain red fabric for the waist tie.
I stayed up from 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. one night to finish it because it had been on my “to-do” list for 2 weeks, and I really wanted to get it done…for all you seamstresses out there, it would only take you an hour because it is pretty simple to create 🙂 If you like this fabric, it is item #121715 ($9.95) and you can order it from my SU! website. Or try the “Deck the Halls” Designer Fabric assortment for a vintage Christmas look (#121716)

I’m in love…….with the Big Shot! Did you know that it can cut through 50 different types of materials in addition to paper and card stock? Like our wood sheets, vinyl (yes, Stampin’ Up! sells large vinyl sheets in over 20 colors), foam, felt, foil, and of course FABRIC! I have had such fun exploring the world of fabric (and copying great ideas from other demonstrators) that I am holding a class to share it with you AND you will can go home with a beautiful fabric flower that you can wear, pin to a hat or coat or bag, use as an accent on a gift, put on a band for a little girl’s hair, etc, etc….If you would like to make the flower, the cost is $3 or you can just come to watch and learn for no cost 🙂 This is a sample of one of the flowers we made at our Winter Stamp Camp in Dixie, but we’ll be using Spring Colors for the class:
