The Stampin’ Up!®️ Hot Foil System is the newest playground for paper crafters, so our International New at SU! Design Team is back to share some SHINE and encourage you to give it a try!

This is my swing-fun fold card & envelope which could be used for a wedding, a retirement, a new job, a graduation or even a birthday! I could have foiled a frame on the front of the envelope, but I chose to stamp a floral flourish under the address area.

The foil adds a debossed elegance that catches the light, but it can be tricky to capture on camera! This is the best pic so far to help you see the gold foil on both layers of frames.

The Lost Lagoon Frame swings to the inside as you open it, and it’s a “magic trick” even you can do~

HOW TO MAKE A SWING CARD:

Lost Lagoon Card Base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″. Heat Foil the largest frame in the center of the front of the card, then die cut it out. Add Golden Glow stamped/sponged background on top (3-3/4″ x 5″) and die cut again through the back side of card so you can cut in the same spot.

Very Vanilla Mechanism inside card: 8″ x 5-1/4″ scored at 2″, 4″ and 6″ Fold as shown and adhere the first flap against the front of the card next to the fold. Once the front is attached, put adhesive only on the LAST section, fold flat as shown in second picture and close the back of the card to adhere to the right side of the back of the card.

Make it SWING: Through the front “window” put adhesive ONLY on the right side of the center fold Very Vanilla card stock and press the frame onto the right side, leaving the left half free to pivot (last photo, above)

Heat stamp gold foil with the medium-sized frame onto a piece of Very Vanilla card stock (tip: you can use the same piece of foil to “stamp” the medium frame), die cut, stamp leaves and sentiment and add to the Lost Lagoon frame. Add bee (you’ll have to fussy cut it). Once you’ve made a swing card, you’ll look at every nested shape to see what you can make other versions with!

Save your scraps of foil ~ I’ll return with ways to use the leftover pieces later this week!

Paper Cuts and Delightful Deals

Each of these cards follows the same “sketch” and use different Designer Series Paper. Since the Peaceful Garden (bottom card) paper is part of the sale, we’ll take a closer look at it first:

I used only the Peaceful Garden DSP, card stock (Misty Moonlight & Secret Sea) and a pre-printed sentiment from the Greetings for All Ephemera pack…no stamping required for this card.

Stampin’ Up!®️ Glow of Harvest Keep Looking Up greeting card

The second card follows the same sketch, and shows off the August Product of the Month, the Glow of Harvest Designer Series Paper…

My team had a challenge to use this paper for a project and share it, thus my version does dual duty! It also gives a sneak-peek at a new embossing folder coming in September (Softly Woven). I added a sweet sentiment and acorn accents from the Sweet Words & Labels bundle.

Sketch Details:

Background papers: 1.5″ x 3″ and 3″ x 3″ (optional mat: 3.25″ x 4.75″)
Banner: 2″ x 3-7/8″
DSP strips or labels: approx. 1/2″ tall by however long you’d like.

Will It FOIL? Part 5: Foil on Photos (+Bonus Card)

While we’ve just begun to explore what can be Hot Foiled, today’s medium concludes my initial series based on my LIVE Crafting video from Monday, August 3, 2026. A printed photograph was sitting on my desk as I began experimenting, so naturally, I had to try adding some extra SHINE!

It felt resourceful to small sections from previously used foil to add two colors of butterflies (silver & pink) to the upper corner of this cute photo of my daughter-in-love and granddaughter. Will surely be trying more multi-foiling in the future, and the smooth surface of the photo was ideal for this technique.

Since I was using the Butterfly Flight Hot Foil Dies, here’s some info about the very popular bundle and a bonus project!

The bundle includes the hot foil dies (shown in gold, but they are a matte-gray with a satin finish in actuality), coloring masks (easiest to color the butterflies after foiling and before die cutting out), coordinating cutting dies (don’t worry, it’s easy to tell the difference between the dies!), AND detail dies for extra embellishments.

The coloring masks are numbered 1-4 in the top left corner near a notch to help you line them up easily, and to walk you through each step. You could spritz color over the masks, but I find it works best with blending brushes or even sponge daubers. This shows the butterflies colored with blending brushes and ink pads after foiling or just using the masks to make the winged creatures, both of which are lovely:

Will It Foil? Part 4: Window Sheets

As the 4th part of the “Will It Foil” series featuring the NEW Stampin’ Up!®️ Hot Foil System, today I’m showing how it works on WINDOW SHEETS.

As Hot Foil works best on smooth surfaces, there is really nothing smoother than a clear piece of plastic. I foiled both the large frame from the Flourish & Frames bundle AND the sentiment from the Classic Greetings AT THE SAME TIME onto a window sheet with Silver Foil.

The Splash of Sparkles specialty Designer Series Paper recently retired, and it had bold swaths of foil that worked well for this design, so I layered it onto Smoky Slate card stock and die cut the large frame from the center then adhered the window sheet behind it. To prepare it for a shaker card, use Foam Adhesive strips on the back side around the opening and toward the outside edges, assuring that it is an enclosed rectangle so that none of the sprinkles can escape. Don’t adhere it to the card base YET…

Next I stamped some “balloons” on the front of the white card base (shhh…don’t tell anyone, but I don’t have a balloon stamp, so I used the solid bee body from Bee My Valentine stamp set and drew ribbons with a marker).

Sprinkle a teaspoon or two of shaker elements (cupcake sprinkles or glitter can also work) onto the card front, then carefully remove the adhesive from the foam strips you enclosed the back of the frame with and attach the framed window sheet layer over the shaker elements onto the card front.

This is a card a granddaughter will LOVE to shake up to celebrate her 10th birthday!

Do you ever get the “itch” to create art? I did this morning when I saw Emma Goddard’s card featured on the Global Design Project’s “CASE the Designer” challenge #gdp556

That SPLASH of color on Emma’s card felt like creative juice, so I pulled out the new Butterfly Flight Hot Foil Dies, some watercolor paper and ink to “CASE” (Create And Share Everything) the washes of ink!

I started by making “blobs” of color (the technical term, I’m sure) onto watercolor paper using Water Painters and Timid Tiger, Melon Mambo and Pretty Peacock ink. TIP: If you squeeze your ink pad while it’s closed, some of the ink transfers to the LID of your ink pad and you can pick it up from the lid with a paintbrush so the water doesn’t damage your pad.

The Butterfly Flight Hot Foil dies were foiled in GOLD on Very Vanilla card stock (if you haven’t seen our amazing new Hot Foil system in action, click HERE to learn more) then colored with the coordinating masks. Watch how fun it is to layer on the color with Blending Brushes and the same ink pads used for the background:

The sentiment “Here’s to a new chapter” from the Sending Salutations stamp set feels appropriate for a butterfly card, as the creatures are known for their beautiful transformation from caterpillar to beauty queen! It could be used for a birthday, retirement, new job, new parents, beginning of a school year, or a wedding, don’t you think?

Bikes & Blooms Diagonal Sliding Channel-Lock Card

The Global Design Project color challenge #GDP553 felt “retro” to me, so I grabbed the stamp set from the June “Bikes & Blooms” Paper Pumpkin Kit and started playing.

I was reminiscing about the freedom we had during the summer growing up in the 1970’s: We would leave on our bikes and ride/play until dark, with a stop at one house or another for lunch. The rule was that we had to be home by dark! It was glorious to feel safe and to have the mobility our “wheels” provided.

TRUE STORY: One of my granddaughters just learned how to ride a bike without training wheels and she called me from her watch/phone as I was writing this post to tell me she was taking a ride around the block! While things are a little different than they were 50 years ago, I’m grateful she has acquired a new skill and a taste of her own freedom.

Back to our card of the day: Following the diagonal card fold shared earlier this month, I added a sliding channel lock piece that keeps the front flaps together, and slides off to open. TIP: When you cut your scored card stock diagonally to get two card bases from one sheet of 8.5″ x 11″ card stock, cut it *slightly* shorter (like 1/16″) so there is a small gap between the edges when folded to allow the locking piece to slide easily.

The Perennial Postage dies were perfect for giving the bike image a frame and creating the mechanism. Watch how to create a channel lock and how this card works:

To fit the Peaceful Pine/Barely Blush/Timid Tiger color scheme, I colored one of the 2026-2028 In Color Butterflies with the Timid Tiger Stampin’ Blends marker. It was easy because it was already orange-ish in Crisp Cantaloupe. The extra embellishments actually cover up an ink smudge I made with my finger, and I wasn’t about to start over again 😆 FYI: The Card base is Basic Beige, which really gives it a 70’s Vibe.

This was a fabulous stamp set from the June “Bikes & Blooms” Paper Pumpkin kit.

Sunshine or shade?

You can have BOTH! Your favorite New at SU! crafting crew from around the world are here to show you how to use Stampin’ Up!®️ TWO-TONE card stock! Learn paper crafting techniques that will help your creativity be as cool as you are this summer.

The first thing you need to know is that our Two-Tone Cardstock has a dark and a light side (duh…it’s in the name!) and a WHITE core between them. Some of the other projects will show off that white core, but I’m here to show how the two variations can give you DEPTH with your die cuts.

By using both sides of the paper (dark and light), you can create a shadow of the same color, making a dimensional die cut like this sun visor from the Splash & Relax bundle. I’ve also used our new wonderful White Gel Pens to give a few little details, and I had to use my favorite packing tape hack to make the sunglasses reflect the light:

The trick for that is to adhere a piece of packing tape to your card stock *before* you cut the base of the sunglasses. Apply an adhesive sheet behind the yellow card stock and slip the lens die cuts *inside* the sunglass die to cut out the frame. Then you can peel off the adhesive sheet and adhere the frame over the shiny outline of the sunglasses.

Nostalgia reigns whenever I craft with the Silly Old Bear suite, and not just from my childhood, but my own kids spent many happy hours watching Winnie the Pooh and singing classics such as “I’m just a little black rainCLOUD! Hovering under the honey tree!” A.A. Milne’s characters are truly “old friends” at our home.

This card was inspired by the #tgifc581 Sketch Challenge

The only thing I stamped on this card was the sentiment, which I cut apart to scatter across the frame. Everything else was die cut from the Designer Series Paper!

Another demonstrator was kind enough to share that this is what you can die cut from one sheet of the paper which has the characters on it, The dies cut both the images on the patterned paper AND the images you can stamp!

The SUITE includes the Sweet Old Friends AND Sweet Words & Labels bundle, Designer Series Paper and the Hundred Acre Wood embossing folder. It makes adorable nursery decor, baby books, and of course greeting cards.

Whomever I send this to better display it on a mantle for a good long time…it’s already framed and reminds me of the blessings of good friends!

What’s Black & White with a POP of Color?

With all the makings of a silly joke, I’m back with a Penguin card from the Wild Bunch Stampin’ Up!®️ Product of the Month! Isn’t he looking dapper in his everyday tuxedo paired with a POP of Crisp Cantaloupe?

You don’t even need to emboss the checkered background- simply stamp the image over and over again in Whisper White Craft ink on Basic Black card stock. I *did* emboss the sentiments, and cut them apart so there would be a trio to draw the eye in a triangle.

I “cheated” on the double ribbon: I just taped two 5″ strips of ribbon to the back of the top layer, then tied another length around them on the front in a bow.

The inside is a la “Madagascar” (the movie) style: with another trio of precocious penguins peeking out playfully:

I believe you’ll find it easiest to color these animals with the wonderful Stampin’ Up!®️ Watercolor Pencils, and you can really blend them nicely when the tips of the pencils are dull, not sharp. If you want to enhance the colors, lightly color over the pencils with a Water Pen, starting with the lightest colors first.
